Concealed carry permit holders or Constitutional carry in Texas

Concealed carry permit holders or Constitutional carry in Texas:

Below are a few statistics from the state of Texas. As you can see, these statistics categorize those with a License To Carry in a positive light. It is a good reason to take the time and effort to get a License To Carry in Texas.

  • In 2016, 148 permit holders were convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, which is a conviction rate of 12.3 per 100,000.
  • Compared to the entire population, Texas Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) holders are about 7.6 times less likely to be arrested for a violent crime.
  • They are convicted of misdemeanors or felonies at one-sixth the rate that police officers are convicted.
  • They are even much more law-abiding than even police officers. They were one-tenth as likely to be convicted of a misdemeanor or felony, and one-seventh as likely to be found guilty of a firearms violation.

For the general population in Texas:

  • The Texas crime rate for 2017 was 437.75 per 100,000 population.
  • During the calendar year 2018, Texas’ crime rate was 2,776.6 crimes per 100,000 persons.

The stats above make it clear that obtaining a License To Carry in Texas has some advantages over Constitutional carry.  But these statistics are not the only advantages of obtaining a License To Carry in Texas or any state for that matter. Traveling while armed can be dizzying patchwork of laws to untangle. It is simplified somewhat if you have a state issued permit.

Even if you don’t get a permit, you should consider getting adequate training from a qualified instructor. There are many places in Texas that offer defensive firearms training. You will want to do a little research before picking a place to go.  Cost, length and content should all be looked at. Some introductory courses are a few hours long while others are two days long. If possible, check reviews from other students.
